Greensburg graduates to enjoy graduation meal
Seaboard Foods donates and prepares graduation meal

SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan. (May 18, 2007) — Greensburg, Kan., graduates will enjoy a delicious meal following graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 19. Seaboard Foods and the Kingman Rotary Club, Kingman, Kan., along with the Southwest Kansas District of Rotary International, have joined forces to prepare and serve a graduation meal for those attending the Greensburg School District’s graduation.

On May 4th, a tornado destroyed more than 90 percent of the buildings, including the schools, in Greensburg.

“It’s just hard to imagine what those kids are going through right now. They should be celebrating this important milestone instead of dealing with this devastation,” says Susan Hudson, training and recruitment manager at the Seaboard Foods’ Guymon, Okla., pork processing plant. “When we heard about the graduation ceremony, we were excited to offer a meal with Seaboard Foods pork products.” Hudson is spearheading Seaboard Foods’ efforts.

A Seaboard Foods volunteer team from Guymon will tow two cookers and electric generators to prepare a graduation meal for an expected crowd of more than 1,000. Guymon is located about 150 miles southwest of Greensburg on Highway 54.

The Seaboard Foods volunteer team will cook and prepare nearly 600 pounds of PrairieFresh® Prime brand pork loins and pork burgers processed at the Guymon plant. The pork is raised on farms located throughout southwest Kansas and Oklahoma. The Kingman Rotary Club will provide side dishes and condiments for the meal.

“We wanted to show our support to our southwest Kansas neighbors, in addition to the monetary donations from Seaboard Foods and our employees. Our dedicated and enthusiastic employees are always looking for ways to help others,” says Rod Brenneman, Seaboard Foods president. “These kids and the entire community deserve a celebration, and we’re pleased to have the opportunity to provide our pork and prepare a graduation meal for all to enjoy.”
